Five Things Friday!

Because I missed Ten Things Thursday...

1. I weighed in this morning, and that was not-so-fabulous, but I'm determined not to let it get to me. Still hovering just under 220. Lord help me if I ever see that second 2. Moving on.

2. I saw my new shrinky dinky doo yesterday. I think it's going to work out. I'll have to do a lot of work schedule finagling to make it happen, but I really think she is the right person for me right now. I feel a great weight lifted already.

3. Question for the masses: Anyone have any experience taking antidepressants "as needed"? If so, what was it and how did that work for you? This was a suggestion made to me for getting through my PMS week, which has really gotten out of control. Thought I'd get some man-on-the-street (or lady-on-the-net, if you will) opinions first.

4. You know what is really irritating? Whenever I regain, all of it seems to go in my gut, so now I have to buy new jeans even though I'm the same weight that I was LAST September. WTF?

5. This week we have our annual family party on my hubby's side. His mom is one of ten kids, so there's about 80 of us including hub's cousins and their kids. It's a lot of fun -- I'm just hoping it doesn't rain!

Hi lady! Best of luck with therapy. It can absolutely help you work through things. *hugs*

I can't do as needed. I have been on Lexapro for the last year or so...and whenever I go off for more than a few days, I definitely notice a difference.

I think the as-needed thing would be good.

Not sure if I'd go with anything too strong, or habit addicting, or whatever... nothing that would give you a case of the fiends if you stopped taking it after your period week... but you know what I mean.

But, of course, I say try whatever the lady suggests! It can't hurt.

I've never heard of an "as needed" antidepressant, since anything I'm aware of that hits SSRI's you need to gradually titrate up (or down) on to be effective/it's cumulative. Anti-anxiety meds are often prescribed as-needed though (and some anti-depressants also help with anxiety...and PMS might cause anxiety symptoms more than depression?) Some anxiety meds are also dangerous to quit cold turkey, but some you can take that way...shrinky dinky doo is a psychiatrist, right? lol So hopefully she knows what she is doing. :-) I'm no expert. If you felt comfortable with her/good connection, that is great. Nothing beats having a good rapport with your doctor. You can see how it works for you and go from there - hope it works out great!

The only thing I've ever heard you can take as needed are anti-anxiety pills. They work fast and wear off relatively fast. But anti-depressants take weeks to get fully in your system so no way would they work as needed. Just shoot for a real low does every day instead and see if that helps.
