The Nut That Wasn't

Yesterday I had my first appointment with the nutritionist at the weight control center. And would you believe, she was actually sane? Yes, a Nut who is not a NUT! I am so pleased.

First of all, she gets the whole band thing. She didn't suggest anything crazy, and didn't argue with me when I said a certain food wasn't tolerated. She is also Italian, and even commiserated with me on missing pasta. She quizzed me a lot on my habits and validated some of my choices and made good suggestions when things needed change. All in all, I was really happy with the visit. 

She set a protein goal of 65g per day for me, but I'm going to keep aiming for 75g. She recommended some HMR shakes and protein Chicken Soup to help me get there (I struggle). She also suggested I get more consistent with my vitamins and get on some Calcium, and she hooked me up with mega samples of the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Crystals. They are supposed to be flavorless, but regardless it will be a way to get more water in.

So here is my plan:

Breakfast: Protein bar OR bacon/fruit OR protein drink
Morning snack: greek yogurt OR almonds
Lunch: protein and veggies (frozen entree, leftovers, salads)
Afternoon snack: crackers/veggies w/ hummus OR chips and salsa OR cheese OR HMR shake/pudding
Dinner: protein and veggies

Snacks are what get me off track usually. I have a horrid sweet tooth, so I'm hoping that making the HMR pudding will help stave that off while helping me keep the protein count up.

Next week is my appointment with the nurse practitioner!

Your menu looks good to me. Also, I am terrible about taking calcium....thanks for the reminder. Now if only I'll just do it. lol

I'm glad you liked her. My surgeon's office has a nutritionist on staff and it is required that you see her x amount of times before and after getting banded. She only works with WLS patients so she really understands our tool and what foods work with it.

Glad you got a plan that will work for you! Also, if I just cannot STAND IT and have to have a sweet... those 90 calorie fiber one brownies are pretty good! :)

That plan sounds amazing. I am sure you will see great results.

It is hard for most of us to remember, but we can rarely get in our protein by eating it, when we have really tight restriction.

I drink one shake or eat one protein bar everyday, and I am four years out as well!

Looks good hon. Glad to hear that you found someone that doesnt give you a hard time about your band. I know that can be frustrating. Good Luck!!

Sounds like a good plan. I have found 2 things to satisfy my sweet tooth...first is sugar free Jello pudding snacks. I like the vanilla best but the dulce de leche and chocolate flavors are pretty good too. Second, the Larabar minis. They're small - just a few bites - but made with real food and delicious! My favorite is the apple pie - the only ingredients are unsweetened dried apples, raisins, dates, almonds, walnuts, and cinnamon - that's it. Nothing weird. And just enough sweet to take the edge off.
